Norwegian Red Heifer Summer Inspection

Geno Norwegian Reds export manager Diego Galli along with a team from Dovea Genetics were out on farms this week to see how some Norwegian Red daughters faired over the spring.

Visiting farms across the country from Donegal to Cork we saw similarities across the board between our farmers and explored the overall impact the breed has had on their systems.

The main reasons for the change were for improved udder health, durability & fertility, adding strength & overall lifetime yields.

Farmers all had similar things to say about the improvements made through the addition of Norwegian Red genetics into their herds. Longevity was a common factor with one cow going into her 13th lactation with 3.9 % protein.

Figure 3 Reitan 2 NR2016 sire of many Norwegian Red bulls. Reitan 2 is a tall Irish daughter proven bull whose daughters have increased milk solid kgs compared to their herd mates.

Figure 5 HO X NR, EIK daughter. A two way cross with the Norwegian Red provides durability with improvements to claw health & mastitis resistance.
